About Us

4°C, previously known as City Herbs, has been trading since 1985 and was started by Maggie Lawless, a geography teacher from London.  Maggie imported and bunched Fresh Herbs from her garage in Finchley and made deliveries in her VW Camper Van to all the top London restaurants.

Within a few short years, Maggie and her daughter, Rebeccah, secured a stand in Old Spitalfields Market and were the first women veg tenants. The market decided it would be more suitable for the ladies to be bunching their herbs in the flower market rather than in the veg market, which was very much a man's world.

The 90's were exciting, with Maggie & John (some of you more 'experienced' chefs may remember John as the founder of the Fruit 'n Veg world's first ever market report) moving to a farm on the South Coast to grow veg, rear Aberdeen Angus and run the company's accounts.

Today, we still supply London's top eateries, but now we do so from our BRC accredited, refrigerated warehouses and we've replaced the VW Camper, with a shiny fleet of refrigerated lorries.

Our product offering's evolved a bit too, we now supply every possible Fruit and Vegetable you can think of and a comprehensive range of Dairy and Deli.

Today, the company is run by Rebeccah Lawless and many of our staff have been with the company for 10 - 20 years!

Our sales team are dedicated to ensuring our customers receive perfect service day in, day out. We have an experienced telesales team at the end of the phone 18 hours a day and their product knowledge is second to none. We supply all sectors of foodservice including Michelin Star Restaurants, Contract Caterers, Schools, Cafe Chains & Restaurant Groups. Our trucks deliver six days a week, twice a day to London and the South East. For work outside of our fleet's delivery area, we work with external hauliers and we are a supply partner to Osolocal, supplying National contracts regionally and o-so-locally!
